What small upgrade can make a rental bathroom feel more high-end without drilling?

Published:

In a rental, you’re usually scared to drill or make permanent changes, but you can still lift the whole look with a few clever swaps. One of the easiest upgrades is a better shower curtain and rod, or a much nicer shower head if it’s easy to change back later.

A thick, fabric-style shower curtain (with a plastic liner inside if needed) looks far more luxurious than a flimsy printed plastic one. Choose a simple, hotel-style colour – white, beige, grey – and suddenly the bathroom feels cleaner and calmer.

A decent hand shower or rain-style head, if it can be unscrewed and fitted without tools, adds that “spa” feeling. Just keep the original to put back when you move.

You can also add peel-and-stick accessories: hooks, small shelves, or a stick-on mirror. A matching soap dispenser, toothbrush holder and a decent bathmat also do more than people expect.

You’re not changing tiles or fittings, but you’re upgrading all the “touch points” – what you see and use every day. That’s enough to make a basic rental bathroom feel more like a place you actually enjoy using, not just tolerate.
