Why is it helpful to observe paint samples on the wall for at least a full day?

Published:

Paint looks different in morning light, afternoon light and under artificial light at night. A shade that seems perfect in the shop or on a tiny sample card can feel too bright, too dull, too cold or too warm once it’s on your own wall.

By painting a small patch and watching it for a full day or two, you see how it behaves in all conditions. Does it turn greenish in the afternoon? Does it look gloomy at night? Does it clash with your flooring or furniture?

You hire a colour for your wall 24/7, not just for one hour. Taking this extra time removes surprises and saves you from repainting an entire room because you rushed the choice.

It’s a slow step, but it makes you much more confident that you’ll like living with that colour long-term.
