What’s an easy way to stop laundry from piling up around the house?

Published:

Laundry piles up when dirty clothes have no clear, easy “home” to go to. The simplest fix is to place laundry baskets exactly where clothes usually get dumped: bedroom, bathroom, or hallway near wardrobes. If the basket is right there, people are far more likely to use it.

Choose baskets that are big enough and easy to carry. If possible, have separate sections for light and dark clothes to make washing easier. Then set a basic routine – certain days for washing, or washing when the basket reaches a certain level.

Also, try to finish the “laundry loop” more often: wash → dry → fold → put away. Clothes sitting in clean heaps on chairs or beds are just as visually stressful as dirty ones. Even doing smaller loads more frequently can help you avoid the mountain effect.

The key is reducing friction. When baskets and routines match your real habits, laundry stops escaping to every corner of the house.
