A very simple and revealing question is: “Is there anything you wish you had known before you moved here?”
People often answer this more honestly than generic questions like “Is it a good area?” They might mention issues like water cuts, noisy events, parking fights, school traffic, local flooding, stray dogs, or problems with the building management.
You might also learn positive things – helpful neighbours, strong community groups, great local shops or festivals. Both sides matter.
Listening to a couple of different neighbours gives you a more balanced picture than only hearing the seller or agent’s version. They have nothing to sell you, so their answers can be more grounded in daily experience.
