Should you share photos of your home’s layout or keys on social media?

It’s best to avoid sharing detailed photos of your home’s layout, entry points, security devices or keys on social media. A casual “house tour” post that clearly shows where the main door is, where windows sit, how the back alley looks, and where you keep valuables can become a guide for someone with bad intentions.

Close-up pictures of keys are particularly risky, even if they seem harmless. There are ways to duplicate keys from clear photos using modern tools. So, posing with your key bunch in focus isn’t a great idea.

If you really want to share home photos, avoid revealing every angle. Don’t show alarm keypads clearly, safe locations, or direct lines from street to door. Think of it like this: would you be comfortable if a stranger, not just friends, had that information? If the answer is no, don’t post it.

It’s not about paranoia, just smart filtering of what you put into the public space.
